A mom and her 3 boys decide to take the same photo 20 years later, for their father's birthday present. Notice how they have pretty much the same expressions, posture and clothes! :)

Hundertwasser

Try to pronounce this name: Friedensreich Hundertwasser. Quite a name!
Mr. Hundertwasser died in the year 2000. He was from Austria (a country south of Germany), and he designed real buildings that look a lot like Dr. Seuss creations.

Selma Lagerlof

One of the unexpected perks of working at a bookstore: yesterday I met the great grand-niece of Selma Lagerlof, the first woman to win a Nobel Prize for literature and a very famous person in Sweden's history. She came into the store to order a Selma Lagerlof book for a friend who was traveling to Sweden, and she was surprised that I knew the author and had read several of her books. She says she'll try and come in when I work some night and show me letters that the author wrote to some of her family in America. Wow!

Phyllodes Imperialis

Here's a funny looking guy. When he's "all grown up" he becomes the Imperial Fruit Sucking Moth, found in Australia and other parts of Oceania (Oceania is the region of the world around Australia--that part of the Pacific Ocean and its smaller lands and islands).

Henri le chat noir

This cat has a very popular book now, but it all started with the website. Very silly... a cat with a very gloomy outlook on life! Click here to see the website and its videos:

Perry Mason, as you've never seen him

This is Raymond Burr, the Perry Mason actor, on an old TV talk show. The host of this show wanted to get a serious actor to try--just try!--to be a little silly.

light paintings

This artist does Light Painting. He places colored pieces of glass around electric lights, which then cast colored streaks on the wall around them. Click here to see more of this: Light Painting

Boo!

A howler monkey statue from a zoo in Florida!

Albania is a country just north of Greece and across the water from Italy (the heel of Italy's "boot" kind of points at it). And in Albania there is a mosaic artist named Saimir Strati. Look at these amazing mosaics he's made from nails, toothpicks, wine corks, and paintbrushes... click here: Saimir Strati

This is Doug TenNapel, creator of the graphic novel Cardboard. He's working on a stop-motion video game (like claymation). He created this yellow creature for something, but that didn't work out so he's cutting it up for some new use in the video game! Is this a weird picture or what?
